    When do we know it’s time for therapy?

    ANXIETY

    Anxiety can show up in many forms and includes stress that’s out of proportion to the impact of the event, inability to set aside a worry, and restlessness. Symptoms can include some of the following:

    • Fear and worry about yourself or your loved ones; fears may be general or specific
    • Feeling nervous, irritable, restless, or on edge
    • Feeling impending danger or panic; possibly with no obvious reason
    • Shortness of breath or rapid breathing
    • Sweating or trembling
    • Heart palpitations or increased heart rate
    • Difficulty concentrating
    • Changes in appetite and eating patterns, including craving comforting foods
    • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
    • Nightmares

    RELATIONSHIP DISTRESS

    Distress shows up differently in every relationship. Sometimes it is loud with arguments that leave both partners feeling alone or defeated. Other times, the disagreements leave both people in silence and not speaking for days with tension so high that it is difficult to address. Either way, the couple’s pain is real and unrelenting. When your life partner feels far away, it’s difficult to focus on work, the children or anything else.

    You might be initially hesitant to seek out help and support for personal matters, but when you do, you will feel confident that you are taking a courageous first step towards getting to a better place and being a better you.

    About Dr. Vanessa Milagros, Ph.D., LMHC

    Dr. Vanessa earned her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University and her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Waynesburg University. She is fully licensed in the State of Florida to provide counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in anxiety reduction, trauma healing, and couples counseling.

    Dr. Vanessa has more than 6 years of experience working with adults and couples to achieve healing, restoration, and balance within their daily lives. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as Solution-Focused therapeutic techniques.

    Dr. Vanessa is PREPARE/ENRICH certified for couples counseling and can also provide pre-marital counseling as well as trained in Couple’s Communication.
